RCT #29
Tooth #29
A 42-year-old male patient presented with no chief complaint related to tooth #29. Clinical and radiographic evaluation revealed a necrotic pulp with asymptomatic apical periodontitis, and root canal treatment was planned.
Prior to initiation of treatment, the patient returned with acute swelling associated with the tooth, consistent with cellulitis. An emergency pulpectomy was performed to relieve the infection, and the patient was prescribed antibiotics.
Patient also complained from nerve numbness and displayed signs of paresthesia that accompanied the swellings, these signs were before starting the emergency pulpectomy, explained to the patient that the swelling could compress the mandibular canal and cause these symptoms.
Following resolution of the acute symptoms, root canal treatment was completed over two visits. The first visit consisted of cleaning and shaping of the canals with copious irrigation. At the subsequent visit, the canals were obturated. A core build-up and crown preparation were completed, and the tooth is planned to receive a definitive full-coverage crown fabricated using CEREC CAD/CAM technology.
